‘Exorcyst’ Pimple Popping As Seen In The Sun
A video has been featured in The Sun, showing the procedure where a 10 year old sebaceous cyst was removed from a man’s back.
The London Mole Removal Centre’s founder Dr Ross Perry carried out the procedure and has been dubbed ‘the exorcyst’ by The Sun, who wrote:
“THIS is the disgusting moment a man with a lump the size of a ping pong ball has it removed from his back – 10 years after it first emerged.”
The cyst had grown over a decade at the top of the man’s back, below his neck.
Dr Ross Perry began by delivering local anaesthetic, to ensure that the procedure would be completely pain-free.
He then used a sharp scalpel to open the top of the cyst, before gently squeezing it out between two pieces of gauze either side of the incisions. The sizeable cyst meant that a large amount of yellow pus was extracted.
Dr Perry said that this was one of the biggest sebaceous cysts he’d seen. While cysts are not classed as a problem in medical terms, they can be unsightly and also increasingly uncomfortable, as continue to grow.
He explained that it is best to seek attention before they grow too large
“There’s lots of problems that goes wrong with cysts.
“The common scenario is the patient will get a little lump or bump, they go and see their GP who says it’s fine, it’s not cancerous but it can’t be removed on the NHS because it’s deemed cosmetic.
“So, they leave it, it starts to grow, and often patients play with it or it gets irritated and leaks inside and becomes infected.
“Once it becomes infected, it can’t then be as easily removed because the sac breaks down and the muck leaks into the skin.
“They need antibiotics and it needs draining, leaving massive amounts of scarring.
“This takes weeks and weeks to settle down and there’s always the chance it will regrow.”
Cyst Removal – NHS and Private Treatment
The patient’s cyst had continued to grow as his GP had told him that there was nothing that could be done.
As cysts are not classed as a ‘medical concern’, many patients face a similar situation and struggle to find help.
However, cyst removal is a relatively straightforward minor surgical procedure which is available in the private sector. Cosmedics Skin Clinics (incorporating the London Mole Removal Centre) are well-known for offering the procedure. They offer cyst removal at a choice of 5 clinics – 4 are based in London and one in Bristol. All procedures are carried out by qualified doctors or surgeons.
Why Early Treatment Is Best
Dr Ross Perry says that it’s best to get cysts removed as early as possible to avoid them growing or becoming infected:
“If I had one on my face that was anything bigger than a pea size get it removed just to prevent it from getting any worse.
“When you remove them at that size it’s a lot easier.”
