Get Set for Summer… It’s SPF Time Already!

After February’s mini heatwave, Dr Ross Perry, Medical Director and Founder of Cosmedics Skin Clinics, is warning patients to get back into the habit of using sunscreen every day.

He explains:

“We all know the sensible advice is to do this every day of the year, but if we’re honest, most people tend to slip over winter.”

The suns rays may be weaker during winter and spring, but without any protection at all, the skin is vulnerable. Especially on warm days when you’re outside, but even on dull days too.

How can I make sure I remember my SPF?

Ross suggests:

“If you find you keep forgetting the sunscreen, pop a bottle on your bathroom shelf so that you remember it every morning.”

Sunscreen won’t work with makeup will it?

Ross says:

“There are some great non-greasy formulations that sit well under makeup and some tinted products that could even replace your foundation.”

Products designed for facial use rather than all over holiday SPF are likely to be a better bet. Mineral sunscreens can have a good non-greasy texture. Some are mattifying and others have a tint, so the right sunscreen could make your skin look good as well as protecting it from the sun.

Dr Perry is an expert on sun damage. He has removed thousands of moles in his career, which includes working in the NHS in skin cancer reconstruction as well as ongoing commitments as a GP.

Ross founded Cosmedics Skin Clinics in 2003 offering private treatment for troublesome skin lesions. Patients are able to access appointments in 4 London clinics with qualified and experienced doctors who are registered with the GMC.

Waiting lists are minimal and most of the skin treatments can be completed in the same appointment as the initial consultation where preferred, saving the need for a repeat visit and allowing patients to get their skin lesions removed very quickly.

Private Mole Checks & Removal

The London Mole Removal Centre is a private company, offering mole checks and treatment for unwanted moles and other skin lesions (e.g. cysts, skin tags, warts, verruca, lipoma, xanthelasma) at 5 mole removal clinics.

All consultations and treatments are carried out in person by doctors who are specially trained in the latest laser and skin surgery techniques and are highly experienced in the field.

Where the mole is not considered medically a risk, then the NHS will usually deny mole removal on the basis that it is just ‘cosmetic’, so treatment in the private sector is the best approach.

Further advantages of private treatment at the London Mole Removal Centre include:

  • No waiting lists
  • Moles can often be removed in the same appointment as the consultation
  • Choice of clinics in London and also Bristol
  • Removed moles tested with report provided
