Verrucae/Plantar Warts

Verrucas (or verrucae) are a type of wart that is found on the soles of the feet.

As with warts, they are due to a viral infection known as human papillomavirus, or HPV. This causes skin lesions with a rough or bumpy texture and slightly raised appearance. They’re unpleasant to look at, but when the are on the sole of the feet, they can also cause discomfort or pain, with the patient feeling that the verruca is ‘digging in’ to the foot whenever they tread on it.

Verrucas are highly contagious, so they can spread and multiply quite easily. They’re commonly spread at swimming pools and the young are more vulnerable as the skin is less tough.

Verrucas may eventually clear up but they can last a number of years for this to happen, so many patients prefer to get rid of them sooner.

Verruca treatments are available from the chemist and may be worth a go, but even ‘extra strength’ variants purchased over the counter can be ineffective with a well-established verruca.

Verruca Removal Treatment

London Mole Removal Centre offers verruca treatment at our London and Bristol clinics with trained and experienced doctors. We understand that patients want complete removal of their verruca with as few sessions as possible.  Our treatment options are designed to give the best possible result for our patients but our doctors will also be honest in outlining expectations, as some verruca may require more than one session for complete removal.

‘See and Treat’ Verruca Removal

Our ‘See and Treat’ service means that you can now have your verruca removed at the same appointment as your consultation, saving you having to come back for treatment another day. The consultation and treatment together can usually be completed in less than an hour for the majority of patients.

‘No Obligation’ Consultations

As a patient, you’re under no obligation to go ahead after consultation with our doctors. If you’re unsure at all, then simply don’t proceed until you’re completely happy to go ahead.

How is Verruca Treatment Done?

Verruca removal is carried out using a range of methods, depending on the severity of the condition.  Our doctors may use cryotherapy (freezing), laser (or microcautery), or even surgery for the most difficult cases.

Cryotherapy (freezing) and laser may involve 2-3 treatments to ensure complete removal of the foot warts.

What does Verruca Treatment Cost?

Prices depend on the technique used:

  • Verruca removal by freezing – from £310 – ideal for small/simple verrucae
  • Laser verruca removal – from £345 for more resistant cases
  • A consultation with one of our doctors costs £75. Prices for treatments carried out in the same appointment as the consultation will include the consultation fee (note: same day procedures are only undertaken where the procedure is deemed appropriate to do so AND the patient understands the full extent of the costs, risks and potential side effects and is consenting to proceed on that knowledge).
